Scope and content
This collection covers the multitude of sports that pupils can do at Oakham School. Sports include cricket, rugby, hockey, athletics, netball and swimming as some of the richest in terms of items in the sub-series.
Most sub-series have a good photographic record of first teams, alongside comprehensive fixture and team lists. Some sub-series will contain correspondence, programmes and administrative documents.
There is an extensive collection of trophies and shields awarded to pupils and Old Oakhamians for their sporting achievements.

As far as is recorded, these items are fully appraised into the collection.

It is expected that this series will receive multiple accruals in the future.
System of arrangement
This sub-fonds is divided into 19 series. Each series focuses on an individual sport or theme. Within these series, material has been split amongst themes or type. In general, items have been stored in these sub-series according to original order or time of accession. Any digital files are stored in folders that replicate the series arrangement.

There may be concerns of child protection regarding the more recent house photographs. Names are attached to some of the photographs and these may be redacted when made publicly available.

The copyright for many of the sports photographs belong to the photographers or photographic companies. The archives have limited copyright clearance to use Brian and Elizabeth Nicholls photography. Any production of photographs produced by other photographers will need to be approved by external third parties.
