Scope and content

This collection focuses on the pastoral and medical care for pupils and staff at Oakham School.

This includes a sub-series donated by Jane Matthews, the first female deputy head of the school. Her collection contains minute and administrative documents relating to maternity leave, girl boarding and tutorials.

Particular strengths of the collection are the patient books in PMC/2. There are record collated by the sanitorium and subsequent medical centre, as well as accident diaries and medical administrative documents.

Appraisal, destruction and scheduling

As far as is recorded, these items are fully appraised into the collection.

It is expected that this series will receive multiple accruals in the future.

System of arrangement

This sub-fonds is divided into 2 series which allow for pastoral and medical care to be focused on individually. Material has been divided into subsequent sub-series which reflect various themes. Consequently, not all material will have retained its original order. Any digital files are stored in folders that replicate the series arrangement.
